{November 6, 2008}   The Future

I’ve been thinking about it, so I guess I should post about the election results.  No, in my opinion, the “right guy for the job” didn’t win, but such is the will of the majority of the American people.  Democracy in action – the freedom to make a choice and voice it.  However, please know when to be respectful and not try to continuously jam your opinions and thoughts down others’ throats!  Just because we don’t share the same opinion on who would make the better leader for our country doesn’t make you right and it doesn’t make me wrong.  Your rights end where mine begin.  I respect the fact that (now) President-elect Obama was the candidate that got the most electoral college votes.  I respect him as a man and as my future President.  That doesn’t mean that he’s “The One” and that doesn’t mean that I approve of what his policies may be.  That’s MY right.  Let’s just agree to disagree and vow not to continually make the opposite side of the aisle miserable with rhetoric and retorts.  There is a way to come together – by keeping our mouths respectfully quiet….both of us.

{November 4, 2008}   Technology

Today’s dependence on technology is a wonder.  I would consider myself to be pretty “tech-savvy”, but there are some things that I *swear* are designed to keep us as bay.  I can widget, wiki, blog, and tweet with the best of ‘em, but it took me two days to figure out how to change the time on my $3 plastic watch from Wal-Mart.  I tried it first on my own, I Googled the directions to no avail, and tried to locate the Armitron website directly for instructions, but got nowhere.  I finally play around with the stupid thing until I got the desired result but I have no idea how.  When the time changes again, I’ll be in the same boat with the same grievances.

The technical advances of the era are marvelous, it’s true, but some things should just remain simple, uncomplicated, and “untechnical”.

{October 25, 2008}   Decision

I’ve decided to go to Northport next week.  I thought it over and came to the conclusion that I can’t let the past run my life and dictate my actions.  If I run into people I may not want to, I’ll meet them with a smile and my head held high.  I running my own life and plotting my own course.  I told my friend Shane today that life is full of ups and downs and that’s right.  If it weren’t a rollar coaster ride, what would be the fun of it?  What would we learn?  Nothing, that’s what.    I am a student of life and can’t wait to pass any popquiz that may come along.  ;-)

{October 24, 2008}   A Quandry

I just received an email from a friend/former boss from Alabama who wrote to invite me to the Heritage Sunday/Homecoming/Scholarship Student Reunion at the church where I used to work.  My experience in Alabama was not the best on the whole, but my time at Northport United Methodist Church was truly a blessing.  I want to go and see all of the sweet and lovely people I’ve missed over the years, but I’m still under the shadow of not wanting to see certain other people.  What should I do?

I suppose that this situation is a micro-version of life.  We go through our various and sundry lives mixing the good with the bad.  We treasure those people who have made a difference for the better in our lives, but some of us are doomed to forever hide from those things that may be painful.  Isn’t it funny/sad?
